PowerGenix Nickel-Zinc Charge Procedure
Two Step Charge
- Constant Current: 1C rate to 1.9V/Cell
- Constant Voltage: 1.9V/Cell to charging current < C/20 value
Fault Conditions
- Total charge time exceeds 2.5 hrs
- Temperature of the cell rises by more than 15C
- Voltage is less than 1.6V, five minutes after start of charge
Notes: For Laboratory Testing: Non temperature compensation at 25°C +/- 3 degrees
Temperature Compensated Charge Procedure
Two Step Charge
- Temperature Compensated Voltage (TCV) = 1.90 - (0.002 x (T-25ºC) V/Cell
- Constant Current 1C rate to TCV
- Constant Voltage TCV to I < C/20 value
1C rate = current required to completely discharge a fully charged battery in one hour. For example, 40A for a battery nominally rated as 40Ah
C/20 = current required to completely discharge a fully charged battery in twenty hours. For example, 2A for a battery nominally rated as 40Ah
Fault Conditions
Stop Charge if the any of the following conditions occur:
- Total charge time exceeds 2.5 hrs
- Temperature of the cell rises by more than 15ºC
- Temperature of the cell exceeds 40ºC
- Voltage is less than 1.6V, five minutes after start of charge
Typical Charge Characteristics of a 2000mAh Cylindrical SubC Cell at 25°C
Maintenance Charge Procedure
Recharge cell/pack per Standard Charge Procedure if:
- Volts per cell < 1.68 V
- Time since last full charge > 30 days
