Rechargeable Nickel-Zinc (NiZn) batteries offer many compelling benefits for the high-growth hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) market, providing a smaller, lighter and more powerful alternative to incumbent rechargeable battery technologies. NiZn offers superior energy and power density compared to lead-acid and Nickel-Metal Hydride (NiMH) and avoids the high costs and safety issues associated with Lithium-ion (Li-ion) batteries. Additionally, NiZn batteries are the most recyclable rechargeable battery chemistry on the market. NiZn contains zero lead, cadmium, mercury or other rare earth metals.
NiZn batteries’ inherent high power density and discharge rate make this technology an ideal solution for automotive applications that demand a large quantity of power in a small and lightweight package. Currently, PowerGenix is targeting a spectrum of hybrid applications including micro-hybrids (start/stop hybrids), mild hybrids and full hybrids.
